A 29-year-old man from Ichalkaranji was given a new lease on life by physicians at Kolhapurs largest public hospital, Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Civil Hospital. The latter had the most uncommon of acquired twin orifices with hardened valves.

According to physicians, just one in ten lakh persons have twin orifices (holes), and only one in a crore has acquired or congenital ones. The CPR hospitals cardiac department reported treating the first patient with such a rare abnormality.

Dr. Akshay Bafna, assistant professor of cardiology, stated that the patient had suffered shortness of breath for the last two years as the exact diagnosis could not be figured out. Several examinations revealed two holes in the heart valve. It is extremely uncommon, especially among people with rheumatic heart disease. The case was studied, and a non-invasive operation was carried out. In this case, the doctors had to inflate the balloon twice, which is usually dangerous.

The hospitals cardiac section is becoming well-known for doing essential procedures on heart patients from low-income families. This procedure has proven effective in treating uncommon cardiac problems without risky open-heart surgery.

Dr. Bafna stated that the patient was discharged three days later. Shortness of breath and weariness, which he had been experiencing for the past six months, was subsiding.

He further stated that a few months ago, surgeons performed a non-invasive cardiac surgery on another patient with glucose accumulation in the valves. The blood clotting propensity was nearly non-existent. As a result, the surgery had to be done carefully to avoid excessive bleeding.
